Inclement Weather Closure Information

How SSD Communicates Closures or Delays

In the event of inclement weather snow/extreme heat conditions, the Scappoose School District will either start school with a 2-hour delay or completely cancel school. Busses will be delayed for 2 hours. For example, if your child usually gets picked up at 7:35 am, the bus should be at your stop at 9:35 am. Snow route information can be found here.

If the weather does not improve within the 2-hour delay, the remainder of the school day may be canceled. The decision to have a 2-hour delay or cancel school will be communicated through Scappoose School District’s Messaging and phone systems. If school is cancelled, all after-school activities are cancelled, unless directed otherwise communicated by the Scappoose School District.

Each SSD family with an active phone number in ParentVue will receive a call and email, so if you miss the call, you will be able to read the message in your email. Please let the school office know if there have been any changes to your contact information.

Closure/ Delay Communications will be delivered though:

  • BlackBoard Messaging system: email, app notification, automated phone calls
  • District website
  • School websites
  • FlashAlert notifications

FlashAlert

Cancelation information will also be available via FlashAlert and your local news station.

FlashAlert. FlashAlert is the system most local school districts and public agencies use to inform the media about weather-related delays, emergency situations, and breaking news.

The decision to delay or cancel school will apply to every school in the Scappoose School District.

Extreme Heat

Extreme Heat: The district understands that while high heat may not warrant closing school, there are several
precautions that can be made to prevent heat related illness and provide for a safe, productive learning
environment.
