RADON TESTING INFORMATION

In accordance with the District's radon plan, Scappoose School District began conducting testing for radon in late November and December at Scappoose Middle School and Otto Petersen Elementary School.  Scappoose Middle School results showed one room and one storage area had radon levels above the Environmental Protection Agency recommended action level of 4.0 pCi/L for short-term measurements.  Petersen Elementary School results showed some rooms located near and including the office also had results above the recommended level.

Based on the EPA and Oregon Health Authority recommendations for schools, we have begun steps for mitigation, as well as short-term and long-term testing to identify if additional mitigation is necessary.
