Emergency Protocol
The School Emergency Response Plan addresses Scappoose Schools’ responsibilities in emergencies associated with natural disasters, human-caused emergencies, and technological incidents. It provides a framework for the coordination of response and recovery efforts within the district in coordination with the City of Scappoose, Columbia County, and the State of Oregon. The Plan establishes an emergency organization to direct and control operations at the school site during a period of emergency by assigning responsibilities to specific personnel.
Purpose
The purpose of the Emergency Response Plan is to protect the safety and welfare of SSD students, employees, visitors, and volunteers, and to ensure the preservation of public property.
Scope
The scope encompasses all SSD school sites and district facilities. It addresses a broad range of major emergencies. Such events include crimes committed on campus, hazardous material emergencies, weather emergencies, and fires.
The objectives of the plan are to:
- Protect the safety and welfare of students, employees, visitors, and volunteers.
- Provide a safe and coordinated response to emergencies.
- Protect the school's facilities and properties.
- Enable the school to restore normal conditions in the shortest time possible.
The Scappoose School District, in collaboration with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Scappoose Police, and Columbia River Fire and Rescue, has implemented the Standard Response Protocol (SRP).
Standard Response Protocol (SRP)
The SRP is not based on one individual possible scenario but on the response to any given scenario. One large benefit of the SRP is the standard language used by all responders; this includes students, parents, staff, and first responders. The protocol also allows for a predictable series of actions as an event unfolds.
The SRP is based upon five actions: HOLD, SECURE, LOCKDOWN, EVACUATE, AND SHELTER. Each has specific staff and student directives that are unique to the action.

PeachJar Flyer Distribution
The Scappoose School District cooperates with approved community partners by posting eflyers online and distributing them electronically through our service provider, PeachJar. As part of our efforts to be more environmentally friendly, embrace innovative technology, and maintain fiscal responsibility, we have transitioned from paper to electronic flyer delivery.
Once approved, your flyer will be emailed to all parents and posted online. Paper flyers from outside organizations will no longer be distributed.

As a District, we absolutely love our Peachjar electronic flyers. It allows parents to get a full-color electronic flyer right on their phone and in their email. The convenience of being out and being able to view an e-flyer right from your phone or sign up for an event is amazing and has been well-received by our parents and staff.
Peachjar for Community Organizations
District-approved community organizations may use Peachjar to distribute flyers to families.
If your organization would like to share information about a program, event, or resource that benefits our students and families:
