Professional Experience:

The 2019-2020 school year will be my second year teaching. Last year I started off the first half of the year teaching Algebra and Geometry as a long term substitute at Scappoose High School before I was a mid-year hire for SMS as the 7th grade Science Teacher.  I am looking forward to the upcoming year and continuing to grow as a new educator.

I grew up in the Scappoose community and graduated from SMS. I then went on to Western Oregon University where I would graduate with a degree in Elementary/Middle Education with a focus in Science.

I loved WOU and all the opportunities it provided me. I had various on campus jobs and volunteer positions including; facility supervisor at the Health and Wellness Center, Aqua Exercise Instructor, Student Activities Board Vice President,  Program Planner for the Athletics Department, and more!

I also completed my student teaching for two terms at Cheldelin Middle School in Corvallis, Oregon in a 6th Grade Life Science classroom and one term in Amity, Oregon in a 4th grade classroom.

I am currently a student through Western Governors University to obtain a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

Why Science???:

I always knew I wanted to be a teacher when I was younger, but not so sure on the grade level or focus area. It wasn't until I got a job working at the Oregon 4H Center over the summers in college that I because super interested about teaching science.

My main job was to create and design science curriculum to teach to campers during the week. I needed to make lessons hands on and fun so that campers would stay interested and engaged during the hot summer months.

Some of my favorite lessons included leading nature hikes, pond studies and a lesson about the frogs. I try to bring outdoor hands on activities into my classroom teaching today because I know how much fun learning can be.

When I am not teaching I love to go snowshoeing in the winter months and kayaking in the summer months. I also enjoy running, hiking, swimming, reading, knitting, cooking and crafting using my Cricut Machine!

Last year I was able to assistant coach on both the girls basketball team and the track and field team here at SMS. This is something that I love and hope to continue doing for years to come. No matter the sport, it is such a blast watching kids excel in things other than academics. I feel that the relationships I build with students outside of the classroom are invaluable.
